CSM Leonardtown Campus Dean Dr. Tracy Harris introduced the Dave Chappell Band

Leonardtown, MD — For the ninth year in a row the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is giving the community a summer gift of entertainment. The Summer 2015 CSM Twilight Performance Series is in full swing and concludes the first week in August.

The series this month has featured free concerts at the Leonardtown campus on Tuesdays and the Prince Frederick Camps on Thursdays. The annual Chautauqua at the La Plata campus, this year on July 7-9, highlighted โ€œthe Sporting Lifeโ€™ with one-person shows on Babe Ruth, Wilma Rudolph and Jim Thorpe.

Thereโ€™s still time to enjoy the series. Thursday July 23rd the Prince Frederick campus will host the โ€œPresidentโ€™s Ownโ€ Marine Band Jazz Combo. Then Tuesday, July 28 Lying Eyes will perform at the Leonardtown campus. The music series concludes Thursday, July 30 at the Prince Frederick with the Navy Band Cruisers.

Each campus will host the CSM Childrenโ€™s Theatre presenting โ€œSneetches,โ€ with Leonardtown Aug. 4, La Plata Aug. 5 and Prince Frederick Aug. 6.

All performances start at 6:45 p.m. Itโ€™s fun for the entire family. Everyone is welcome to eat on the lawn. Make sure you bring a lawn chair.

On Thursday, July 21 the Leonardtown campus hosted the Dave Chappell Band. Unfortunately, the band leader, who has a long list of Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMYS) donโ€™t show. Chappell was reportedly stuck in a traffic accident in Waldorf. But the show went on with three of the five band members. The drummer, who was also caught in traffic, finally showed up for the final two songs. The group plays jazz and blues.

During the show kids in the audience were provided with free ice cream, courtesy of the CSM Student Government Association. They also will be showing a movie on the lawn after next weekโ€™s performance in Leonardtown.

The Leonardtown venue provides shaded seating areas on either side of the open area in front of the stage for those who arenโ€™t inclined to get a sun tan.
