Leonardtown, MD – Due to intense high winds and intermittent power outages, the North End Gallery cancelled its First Friday celebration in Leonardtown March 2. The public is invited to stop in to visit the โInformal Gatheringsโ show, which runs through March 31, during normal Gallery hours. This exhibit includes art works featuring clusters of people, animals, buildings or flowers. Be sure to enter the Mystery Box drawing while youโre there for the chance to win a piece of art. The Galleryโs Winter hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.ย ย
Fenwick Street Used Books and Music
The booksigning by Fred Ruark with his book The Saints Lost Their Way was also cancelled March 2 due to the weather. This event will be re-scheduled in the near future.ย ย
Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance
A Contra dance will be held Saturday, March 10 with caller Ann Fallon and live music by Southern MD Open Band at Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Chaptico. Doors open at 7 p.m. Dancing follows at 7:30 p.m. A Beginnersโ Workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for SMTMD members; $10 for non-members (band members are admitted free of charge).ย ย
COSMIC Family Concert
The COSMIC Symphony Orchestra performs Saturday, March 10 at 4 p.m. at Patuxent Presbyterian Church in California and Sunday, March 11 at 4 p.m. at St. John Vianney Family Life Center in Prince Frederick, MD. Young Artist competition winner Allison Yu will perform Beethovenโs piano concerto No. 3 and runner up winners Ethan Shyu, Connie Sun, and Kaitlin Ng will be performing works by Lalo, Wieniawski, and Mozart. Also on the program will be โThe Children of Captain Grantโ by Dunayevsky, and excerpts from Stravinskyโs โFirebirdโ suite. These concerts are funded in part by grants from the St. Maryโs County and Maryland State Arts Councils provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets are available online and at the door; children are admitted free of charge.
Jay Armsworthy and The Sons Of The American Legion
Jay Armsworthy and The Sons of the American Legion present Lou Reid and Carolina as headliners for a show scheduled for Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 238 located at the corner of MD Route 381 and Route 231 in Hughesville, MD. Lou has been with Seldom Scene for 25 years. Opening the show will be King Street Bluegrass (WAMMIE nominees). Tickets at the door are priced at $20; children under age 12 are admitted free with a paid adult. Food donations for the Helping Hands Food Pantry of Southern MD are appreciated.
