Chesapeake Beach Mayor Bruce Wahl
Chesapeake Beach, MD –ย The race for mayor in Chesapeake Beach is now wide open. The bayside municipalityโs two-term incumbent mayor, Bruce Wahl, announced Thursday, July 21 that he would not be seeking another four-year term. Wahl made the announcement at the monthly meeting of the Chesapeake Beach Town County.
โAfter 28 years as an elected official, it’s time to move on,โ Wahl stated. โI hope and pray that a good โservant Leaderโ will step up and run for mayor to replace me.โ
At least two of the six members of the current town council have been rumored as possible candidates in the November election.
Wahl succeeded long-time mayor Gerald Donovan in 2008. Prior to that he served for 20 years on the town council.
In September 2011, Wahl presided over the dedication ceremony for the Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail, a project he began shepherding when he was member of the town council.
In March of 2014, while working at his office at Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in Washington, DC, Wahl went into cardiac arrest. He credited the quick actions of his PBS coworkers with saving his life.
