Kevin T. Cooper
Leonardtown, MD— On June 28, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Foor responded to Baldridge Street and the St.Mary’s County Detention Center for the report of an assault.
When Foor arrived at the scene and was advised by a detention center employee that defendant Kevin T. Cooper, 21 of Lexington Park and the victim were involved in an assault that morning.
Foor made contact with Cooper and advised him of his Miranda Rights, at which time he waived his rights and agreed to speak to Foor.
Cooper stated, “he was sleeping when his cellmate woke him up to clean the cell. Cooper told the victim he wasn’t going to clean, according to charging documents.
Cooper stated that is when the victim began to hit him and they began fighting. Foor observed no visible signs of injury to the victim.
Cooper was charged with second-degree assault. At this time Cooper does not have a scheduled court date. Cooper faces a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and or a maximum fine of $2,500.
