The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced the organization is launching a four-on-four menโ€™s flag football league at the teamโ€™s home, Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.ย  The round-robin tournament will begin the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 3, and games will be held on each of the following Tuesday evenings until the championship game, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8.ย  Should there be a large response, additional nights may be added to accommodate all interested teams.ย

Although the games will be conducted four-on-four, teams may carry a maximum of eight players on their roster.ย  Regardless of roster size, the registration fee is $300 per team, payable by cash, check or credit card.ย  All games will be played under the lights at Regency Furniture Stadium.ย  Each team will be guaranteed eight regular season games at the minimum, with possible playoff games included. The game schedule will depend on how many teams register.

In addition to the registration fee, there is a per game fee for officials.ย  Officials will receive $10 per game from each team; hence $20 will be paid to officials for a night with two games. There is one official per game.

โ€œThis is just another of the many uses Regency Furniture Stadium allows us,โ€ said Blue Crabs General Manager Chris Allen.ย  โ€œWhat a fun way to keep the action going on the field during the offseason.ย  Our hope is to see this evolve into a yearly event in the fall.ย  We anticipate a highly-competitive tournament, and some great incentives are lined up to ensure that,โ€ Allen continued.

The champions of the Blue Crabs Flag Football League will receive a free suite at Regency Furniture Stadium for a Blue Crabs game during the 2010 season, in addition to a league trophy.ย

The official registration form may be downloaded by visiting the Blue Crabs official website, www.somdbluecrabs.com. The completed form and entry fee is due by Oct. 30. The full rules are also included on the website, with the game schedule and standings to follow once the action is underway.
