A Calvert County woman who faces traffic charges in Anne Arundel County in connection with an August accident that claimed the life of a bicyclist is tentatively scheduled to contest the four counts in district court early next year.

According to information on file with the Maryland judicial system, Whitney Anne Decesaris, 38 of Huntingtown, was charged earlier this month with negligent driving of a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, endangering property, life and person; failure to use care to avoid a collision with a bike operated by a person, failure to control vehicle speed on a highway to avoid a collision, and driving to the left of the roadway center in overtaking and passing when unsafe.

The collision, which occurred Aug. 21 on Riva Road near the intersection of Beards Point Road in Davidsonville, claimed the life of Patricia Cunningham, 50, a cross country coach for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Earlier this month an Anne Arundel County grand jury decided Decesaris should not face charges of criminally negligent manslaughter in connection with the incident. The Anne Arundel County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office stated the county police department would instead cite Decesaris for the traffic offenses, which carry a combined fine of $2,000.

Decesarisโ€™ hearing on the charges is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 18 in Annapolis District Court.
