On March 2 at 2:09 a.m., Tfc. Galgan responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Route 5 south of Route 488 in Charles County. Galgan’s investigation revealed a Pontiac Sunfire was traveling northbound on Route 5 The driver was not at the scene of the collision, however he was located a short distance away by the trooper.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Lawrence Kevin Bruffy Jr., 25 of Waldorf, stated he was driving too fast and lost control. The vehicle struck the center median guardrail and then went off the roadway.
Upon contact with the operator, the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath. Bruffy submitted to and could not successfully complete a battery of field sobriety tests.
He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Bruffy did submit to an intoximeter breath test. His test results were more than double the legal limit in Maryland.
Bruffy was released upon his signature of the citations.
