At 11:24 p.m. April 4, TFC P. Trossbach of the Leonardtown trooper barrack stopped a vehicle for having an inoperable tag light, on Route 247 at Route 5 in Loveville.
The driver was identified as Joseph William Butler, 40, of Leonardtown. Butler was asked to exit the vehicle so a pat down for officer safety could be conducted after several indicators were detected, TFC Trossbach reports.
During a pat down, a small bulge was felt in his pants pocket. The bulge turned out to be a paper towel containing cocaine. Butler was placed under arrest.
During a search incident to arrest, a glass smoking device, containing burnt crack cocaine residue, was recovered from his shirt pocket.
Butler was charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia. He was taken to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
