Maryland State Girls basketball playoffs preview

The Southern Maryland Athletic Conference’s Girlโ€™s Basketball seeding meeting concluded Tuesday, Feb. 23 and some local schools play this weekend.

To start off in the 4A East, Leonardtown will travel to Annapolis High for the opportunity to take on North Point. North Point and Chopticon both earned first round byes in the region.

In the 3A South, St. Charles will travel to Huntingtown for the right to play Northern in the next round. Great Mills will also play host to Potomac. Dates have not been set at the time of this story was filed, but the St Charles-Huntingtown game, and the Potomac-Great Mills match-up will be either Friday or Saturday.

In the 2A South, Westlake and Thomas Stone locked up the top two seeds, and have earned the top two seeds. Meanwhile, La Plata will travel to Calvert, and Patuxent will travel to Lackey this weekend. The winner of Patuxent-Lackey will advance to play Westlake, and the Calvert-La Plata winner will play Stone.ย  Lastly, McDonough will play at Surratsville next Tuesday.

The girls are playing for a state title at the SECU Arena at Towson University. The finals are there March 12.
