CLEMENTS, Md. — Abell’s Diner in Clements will permanently close its doors Oct. 1, ending a longtime gathering place for customers and community members.
The diner announced the closure Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, in a message shared on social media.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Abell’s Diner will be permanently closing its doors on October 1st,” the business wrote.
The diner described the past year as especially difficult following owner Terri’s health battle, adding that staff had worked to keep the restaurant open and continue serving customers throughout the challenges.
“Abell’s Diner has never been just a place to grab a meal,” the business wrote. “It has been a place where friendships were made, stories were shared, birthdays were celebrated, coffee was poured, and so many memories were created around our tables.”
The diner thanked longtime customers, occasional visitors and members of the community who supported the business and its staff.
“While this is not the ending we had hoped for, we are choosing to focus on the wonderful memories and the people who made Abell’s Diner so special,” the announcement stated.
Abell’s Diner plans to remain open through Oct. 1 and encouraged customers to stop by before the closing date to share another meal and say goodbye.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything,” the Abell’s Diner family wrote.
