LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Adrianne Mathis, a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident, retired educator and community advocate, on Wednesday, Sept. 24, officially filed and announced her candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 29B, representing Southern St. Mary’s County.

Born on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station and deeply rooted in the community through generations of family history, Mathis brings both personal and professional experience to her campaign. Guided by her Catholic and Baptist upbringing, she said she is committed to ensuring that the voices of District 29B — too often overlooked in Annapolis — are heard and respected.

“St. Mary’s County is my home, my heritage and my heartbeat,” Mathis said. “I am running to bring our community’s spirit, stories and needs to Annapolis with bold, balanced leadership that reflects the strength and diversity of our district.”

As an educator and mother of three, Mathis has dedicated her career to youth development, community outreach and building partnerships across Southern Maryland. Her campaign priorities include:

  • Strengthening schools through equity-focused investment and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
  • Expanding economic opportunity for working families and small businesses.
  • Improving access to health care and affordable housing.
  • Investing in infrastructure such as roads, broadband and transportation to meet the needs of a growing community.
  • Protecting the environment and preserving the county’s unique heritage for future generations.

“Throughout my life, I have stood alongside our youth, our small businesses and our nonprofits,” Mathis said. “Now, I am ready to deliver practical solutions that uplift every corner of District 29B.”

Mathis said she is running a grassroots campaign centered on listening to residents through town halls and community events. She pledged to work across party lines to advance common-sense policies rooted in fairness, faith and family.

“Annapolis needs to hear us loud and clear,” she said. “With inclusive leadership and a clear vision, I will continue to fight for our families, our businesses and our future.”

Residents are invited to learn more, share ideas and join her campaign by visiting mathisformd.com, following @mathisformaryland on Instagram, or connecting through Adrianne Mathis for Maryland on Facebook. 1. Good question! Why aren’t write=- ins allowed in the Primary? is it because theres too strong a chance, they’;;ll prevail, (You can write- in in the General election because theres a space, so, you can write in someones name whos already on the ballot).

  2. Just about anyone would be an improvement over Crosby. The only thing I have seen him do was send birthday cards to his supporters. But right now I’m leaning in favor of BJ Hall.
