On Monday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m., brainstorm and memory games will be played at the Northern Senior Activity Center.ย  November is National Alzheimerโ€™s Disease month and every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1 p.m., mind games will be taking place to get those brain cells working.ย  Some of the games will be fun and unique word games and activities, group crossword puzzles and more.ย 

On Thursday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., travel to the ruins and archeological digs of Peru at the Northern Senior Activity Center with presenter, Kate Meatyard, Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the College of Southern Maryland. In recognition of Alzheimerโ€™s Awareness Month the Garvey Senior Activity Center is pleased to host a presentation by Dr. Ted Grant entitled โ€œLost Memoriesโ€ on Monday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m.ย  Alzheimerโ€™s Disease will be discussed, and the effect it has not only on those diagnosed with the disease but on family, friends and neighbors as well.ย  Join Dr. Grant as he explores the impact of this disease.ย  Register in advance by calling the Garvey Center Receptionist at (301) 475-4200 ext. 1050.

On Friday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m., come make a mini terra cotta snowman using mini terra cotta pots, textured snow, paint, and an unfinished wooden bead. Once you learn the technique at this class, you can make many more to decorate your home for the winter season. On Thursday, Nov.13 at 11 a.m., the Hands on History series will feature โ€˜The Native Americans before the Colonistsโ€™.Learn about the fascinating history and traditions of Native Americans who lived by the shores of the Chesapeake Bay region.ย  This presentation will feature the daily lives of the Native Americans who were members of the vast Piscataway Nation.

The staff at Loffler Senior Activity Center wishes to honor those who have served our country on Monday, Nov. 10, when we hold our Veterans Circle Celebration.ย  The day will begin with a continental breakfast at 10 a.m.ย  Opening ceremonies start at 10:30 a.m. and will include an invocation, the posting of the colors by the honor guard from Patuxent River NAS and the MIA/POW ceremony.ย  There will be an active duty guest speaker and a discussion period.ย  Vets, wear your decorations and tell us what they represent.
