Maryland State Fire Marshall’s are investigating a house fire in Waldorf, resulting from discarded smoking materials.
Over 35 firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Brandywine, Accokeek and Hughesville VFD’s responded to the 1300 block of Wilson Road on June 16 around 9:35 p.m, for the report of a fire.
Crews arrived on the scene to discover a two-story wood framed home up in flames. Investigation revealed the sleeping family was alerted to the fire by an alert neighbor, who banged on their door after seeing the flames. The fire was determined to be accidental, as a result of discarded smoking materials. The family was displaced from the home and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The estimated loss rings in at $150,000.
