The Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse Inc. (CAASA) recently announced this yearโ€™s Mini-Grant recipients. These recipients received approximately $3,500 in funding to implement alcohol and other drug prevention activities or programs in Calvert County. The recipients are:

Beach Elementary School โ€“ Funding provided for the โ€œSecond Stepโ€ program, which focuses on enhancing social emotional learning.

Barstow Elementary School –ย  Funding provided for the โ€œSecond Stepโ€ program.
Collaborative for Children and Youth โ€“ Funding for the โ€œF.U.E.L. Youth Empowerment Rally.โ€

Calvert Middle School โ€“ Sponsor Red Ribbon Week activities.

Calvert Optimist Club โ€“ Sponsor โ€œShop with a Cop.โ€

Huntingtown Elementary School โ€“ Funding provided for the โ€œWhy Tryโ€ program, which focuses on increasing a studentโ€™s ability to be resilient.

As a method to encourage the community to become involved in alcohol and other drug abuse prevention, CAASA awards funds to local community organizations/groups. Applicants must show that they will implement an activity or program that will address the problem of alcohol and other drug abuse.
