WELCOME, Md. — A Southern Maryland family is facing an unimaginable road ahead after an 8-year-old boy suffered life-changing injuries in a boating accident at Goose Bay Marina & Campground.
Aidan was struck by a boat propeller July 23, 2026, at the marina in Welcome. His family reported that doctors were forced to amputate his right leg and that he also suffered severe injuries to his left leg and hip.
He was flown from the scene by Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries.
Aidan remained on a ventilator as of July 26. His family said doctors had hoped to remove it but decided his lungs needed more time.
He was expected to return to the operating room for surgeons to close remaining wounds on his left leg and continue treatment aimed at preserving as much function as possible.
For a child known for always being in motion, the recovery ahead will bring profound changes.
Aidan’s family described him as an energetic and joyful boy who loves baseball, football, wrestling, riding his bicycle and making people laugh.
“He has the biggest heart, the brightest smile, and a spirit that’s impossible not to love,” the family wrote.
His parents, Becca and Mikey, have remained at the hospital while helping Aidan through surgeries and making difficult medical decisions. His sister, Braelyn, is also trying to understand how quickly life changed for her younger brother.
As of publication, the GoFundMe had raised $56,626 of its $75,000 goal through 509 donations.
The money will help with medical and travel expenses, time away from work, rehabilitation, physical therapy and the future cost of a prosthetic.
Despite the uncertainty, Aidan’s family remains focused on his strength and determination.
“He’s tough, he’s determined, and he’s surrounded by people who love him more than words can say,” the fundraiser states.
The family thanked first responders, hospital staff and the hundreds of people who have donated, shared messages and offered prayers.
“Your love, prayers, and generosity mean more than we can put into words,” the family wrote.
