Great Mills Man Charged After Deputy Reports Watching $30 Crack Cocaine Sale

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Great Mills man was charged after deputies reported watching him conduct a suspected crack cocaine sale in Lexington Park.

Kevin Jerome Chase, 56, of Great Mills, was charged with distribution of a narcotic controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis and possession with intent to distribute narcotics.

The charges stem from an incident reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. on July 17, 2026, in the area of the 21000 block of Great Mills Road in Lexington Park.

Charging documents state a sergeant with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol when he saw Chase loitering in a parking lot and sidewalk area directly across the street.

The sergeant reported Chase walked to a doorstep and placed something on the ground. Seconds later, another person arrived and contacted Chase. After a brief conversation, that person walked to the same doorstep and appeared to pick something up, charging documents state.

Deputies stopped both individuals within seconds. Charging documents state Chase was identified from previous law enforcement contacts, while the other person was identified using a Maryland identification card.

The other person turned over two small pieces of suspected crack cocaine and told the sergeant he had purchased the cocaine from Chase for $30, charging documents state.

The sergeant then went to the doorstep and located $30 in U.S. currency.

Deputies reported Chase admitted he had more crack cocaine. A small tied-off plastic bag containing additional suspected crack cocaine was recovered from Chase, charging documents state.

Investigators reported the appearance of the substance recovered from Chase was consistent with the suspected cocaine recovered from the other person.

Chase was initially held without bond on July 18 before being released on recognizance following a July 20 bond review before Judge Karen Friedman.

A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 13, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
