In a season full of exciting finishes for the senior loaded Leonardtown Boys Basketball team, the Raiders lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night, Feb 23, in the Birdcage. McDonough came into the gym at Leonardtown and took charge early leading 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and 26-20 at halftime, led by the steady play of point guard Marcus Stewart(10 points 9 assists).

The Raiders began chipping away in the second half, finally taking the lead at 44-42 with 1:43 remaining. Pablo Gary (18 points) hit a clutch jumper for McDonough and Stewart hit four consecutive free throws within the last 18 seconds to seal the Rams victory.

The Raiders start the playoffs on Friday Night with the girls playing at home against Annapoils at 5 p.m. The boys will follow at 7 against Glen Burnie with the winner facing the number one seed Annapolis.

In Waldorf, the Great Mills Hornets faced a tough battle against unbeaten Thomas Stone but, they were up for the challenge, giving the Cougars their only regular season loss 65-55.

The Hornets were led by Seniors Mykel Harris (19 points) and Davonte Jordan (11 points). Stone was led by their two big men, Kendal Smith(16 points) and Stephan Battle (15 points). Thomas Stone took the early lead 16-14 at the end of the first quarter but, Great Mills led at the half 27-25 and never looked back, finishing their season at 14-4.

Thomas Stone finished at 19-1 and will have a first round bye in the playoffs as the number one seed In 4-A East. They will face Crossland (also with a bye) in the second round. Great Mills Boys begin with a trip to Arundel to face Mead at the neutral site.

The winner will face the winner of the North County vs Chesapeake game in the second round.
After getting a victory at home against Stone, the girls will face Severna Park in the first round of the playoffs at home starting at 7 p.m.
