ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On May 26 at 12:30 a.m., an adult female victim reported that she was dropping an acquaintance, Cecilio Amaya Benitez, 49, of Annapolis, off at his home. Amaya Benitez was intoxicated and complaining that someone stole money from him. While the woman was driving he pulled out a kitchen knife, pointed it at her and threatened to kill her.

Amaya Benitez made her drive around for about 30 minutes while he threatened her with the knife. The woman found a business that was open on West St and fled the vehicle into the business and called the police. Amaya Benitez fled the vehicle on foot and was not located immediately by officers.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Amaya Benitez and he was located later that day and arrested. Amaya Benitez was charged with armed carjacking, first degree assault and six other related charges. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.
