Medals were awarded to top racers following the Resolution 5K.
Prince Frederick, MD – The Southern Maryland Community Network (SMCN) hosted its annual Resolution 5 Kilometer (K) race Friday, Jan. 1, with the dash beginning and finishing at the agency’s Prince Frederick headquarters.
Race director Corey Hilliard told The BayNet that approximately 150 people signed up and participated in the New Year’s Day race.
The first-place finisher for the 2016 event was Colin Fleming, who completed the course in 17 minutes and 34 seconds. Close behind was Jacob Rickards, who logged a time of 17 minutes and 38 seconds. The third-place finisher was Noah Wood, whose race time was 18 minutes and five seconds.
The top female finisher was Anna Staats, who logged a time of 21 minutes and 48 seconds.
The temperature as the race got underway was just under 40 degrees. Hot soup was served to the participants as part of the post-race celebration.
Proceeds from the Resolution 5K directly benefit SMCN’s mental health programs.
The agency will have pictures from the race and awards ceremony posted on its website sometime this month, and the Chesapeake Bay Running Club will display the complete list of official race results on its site.
