
HANOVER, Md. – Maryland State Police assigned to the Highway Gun Crimes Initiative charged a Prince George’s County man in connection with an alleged road rage shooting that occurred in Anne Arundel County this morning.
The accused is identified as Darius Bryant, 21, of Prince George’s County. Bryant is arrested and charged with attempted murder and other related charges. At the request of the Maryland State Police, Bryant was detained this morning by U.S. Park Police in Washington D.C. on a felony fugitive warrant following a traffic stop.
The victim, not being identified at this time, was driving a white Dodge van at the time of the incident. Police believe he was struck by gunfire on the driver’s side while traveling on northbound 295. The victim was traveling with a passenger at the time of the incident who was uninjured.
After the incident occurred, the victim drove himself to a nearby medical center where he was met by State Troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack. He was transported to a local trauma center where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack received a report of a shooting on northbound 295 prior to the exit for Arundel Mills Boulevard in Anne Arundel County. The victim provided police with a description of the vehicle and dashcam video.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., the suspect vehicle, described as a white Genesis G70 was located in Washington, D.C. by U.S. Park Police. The driver, later identified as Bryant, was detained by police.
During an authorized search of the vehicle, police recovered a loaded firearm. A dispensed shell casing was also recovered by the Maryland State Police K-9 Unit at the scene of the alleged incident.
Following the investigation by members of the Highway Gun Crimes Initiative, Bryant was arrested and charged. He is currently being processed as a fugitive in Washington, D.C. and awaiting extradition to Maryland.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Glen Burnie Barrack responded to the scene along with the Maryland State Police K-9 unit and crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division. Police from the Anne Arundel County Police Department also responded for assistance.
The roadway was shut down for approximately 3 ½ hours to conduct the investigation. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration were on scene providing assistance with the road closure.
