The Calvert Library is issuing an invitation to all Calvert County artists and artisans to take part in Art Speaks Volumes:ย  Presentation of Local Art to be held Saturday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Calvert Library in Prince Frederick.

Area artists and photographers, potters, wood-turners, sculptors, and jewelers, as well as weavers, quilters, and other crafts persons are encouraged to apply for participation in this fun-filled, family-oriented event celebrating the artistic talent abundant throughout Calvert County.

Seven 8 foot by 8 foot spaces and eleven 5 foot by 6 foot spaces will be offered free of charge to artists and artisans who live in Calvert County. Entries will be juried by a two-member panel for suitability and diversity, and will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.

In an effort to feature as many artists as possible, the Calvert Library will provide a maximum 8 foot by 8 foot space, a 5 foot folding table, and up to 2 chairs. Artists and artisans must supply their own screens or displays and must staff their space throughout the event.

Artists are solely responsible for collecting money and tax on any sales made. Walls are not available for hanging art. Only the work of the selected artist may be offered for sale or displayed. Subject matter must be family-friendly. Works of a questionable nature may be excluded by Calvert Library staff.

Entry deadline is Friday, Dec. 11 by 5 p.m. by email to rtruslow@somd.lib.md.us. Artists will be notified of acceptance by Wednesday, Dec. 30, by 9 p.m. by email. Set-up will be Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 from 7 to 9 a.m. The application for participation can be found on the home page of the Calvert Library at www.calvert.lib.md.us.ย
