SHADY SIDE, Md. — The following report was released by the Anne Arundel County Police Department regarding a reported “hate incident” at the Lula G. Scott Community Center that is now under investigation.
“On December 23, 2021, at approximately 11:30 am, officers from the Southern District responded to the Lula G. Scott Community Center located at 6243 Shady Side Road in Shady Side for a report of a hate/bias incident.
While checking the interior of the building, a maintenance worker observed a racial slur inside a maintenance closet. District Detectives were notified and are investigating the incident. The Evidence Collection Unit responded to the scene.
Preliminarily, this appears to be an isolated incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, details of what was observed by the employee are not being released at this time.”
