Dr. Amit Khanna’s dental practice has the motto: “We Keep You Smiling.” But the motto not only refers to having teeth that you wouldn’t be ashamed of flashing. It also refers to the customer’s satisfaction about the service they receive. “We treat patients with respect,” Dr. Khanna said in a recent interview with the Bay Net.

“I have a very well trained staff,” Dr. Khanna said. He instills in them the concept that they are not just treating the teeth they are treating the person.” The service extends to the waiting room, where the average wait is just five minutes.

Dr. Khanna has been in his current location at 44220 Airport View Drive in Hollywood (at the entrance to the industrial park) since August of 2012. He came to St. Mary’s County in 2004 to work in the practice of Dr. Errington. When Dr. Errington retired Dr. Khanna purchased the practice that was formerly in California, MD.

Dr. Khanna, 36, was born in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Georgetown University. He attained his DMD degree from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is married to Cristina and they have two children aged one and two and a half. Cristina, who is a psychologist, is taking time off to raise their children. Dr. Khanna loves to scuba dive and watching the Redskins. He is a member of the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce and his practice provides support to youth sports teams.

Three dental hygienists are working in the office at all times and the turnover has been very light with most having worked for him in his former location. The practice can accommodate new patients. He has another dentist in the practice, Dr. Sharmin Meraj, who works part-time for him.

Dr. Khanna’s practice has a wide variety of dental services, from the regular cleaning and prevention, to bridges, crowns (caps), dentures, fillings, sealants, veneers and whitening.

One of the servicers he provides, and one of the changes he has seen in his more than ten years in practices, is 3-D digital dental x-rays. He is proud of the fact that his practice is one of a few in the area to provide that service. The digital x-rays, according to Dr. Khanna’s website, are “quicker and more comfortable than the process of taking x-ray film and it reduces the radiation exposure by a significant amount. Because the digital images can be viewed instantly, Dr. Khanna will be able to detect and diagnose any abnormalities and developing problems at a faster and more efficient rate.”

Dr. Khanna does not do sedation dentistry. He feels that he can provide a relaxing atmosphere that will work for 99 percent of his patients. He works hard to provide that relaxing atmosphere, including having a peaceful setting with bird feeders for patients to watch outside the windows in front of the dental chairs.  &nbs
