
AWCM John Edmond “Jack” Savage, USN, (Ret.) 84, of Solomon’s, MD (formerly of Leonardtown, MD) passed away at his home on June 18, 2025, with his loving wife at his side.
He was born on February 19, 1941 in Boston, MA to the late John Matthew Savage and Mary (nee: O’Connell) Savage.
After graduating high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country for 26 dedicated years until his until retirement on June 30, 1985 (On the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor), as an Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). During his service he received many Good Conduct Medals, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Hourglass Device, Navy Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, and multiple Letters of Commendation. He was stationed throughout the United States and other countries. After his retirement from the Navy, he was a civil servant for 22 years supporting PMA-264, the Air Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Systems Program. He was selected to be a representative on a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) panel. He was also selected as The Test director for the Office of the Navy Research for Littoral Warfare Advanced Development (LWAD) Subsequently he partnered with AAI Corporation, an Aerospace and Defense Company, and later he worked for NAVMAR, Applied Science Corporation. On September 19, 1964, he married his beloved wife, Joyce Anne (Byrne) Savage in East Weymouth, MA. Together they spent 61 years of laughing, loving, sailing, traveling around the world, and making memories that would last a life time.
In retirement, Jack could be found anywhere the water was. He was the Commodore of the Patuxent River Sail Club for many years, where he taught many sailing lessons and took many sails around the Chesapeake Bay. He and his friends looked forward to Harborfest each year. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved taking his family and friends on his Grady White to fish and enjoy time together.
In addition to his loving wife of over 60 years, Joyce, Jack is also survived by his children, Cynthia Flatley of Leonardtown, MD and Marc Savage of Mechanicsville, MD; grandchildren: Sean Savage (Ayca) of Grand Prairie, TX, Rebecca Savage of Quakertown, PA, and Caitlin Flatley of Richlands NC; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy McCain.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a prayer service held at 3:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
