LA PLATA, Md. — First responders in Charles County were dispatched to two separate dog bite incidents Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, both of which sent residents scrambling for medical help and animal control officers searching for roaming dogs.
The first call came in shortly before 10 a.m. from Dartmouth Road in Waldorf, where a woman reported being bitten while attempting to fend off two large black dogs. The caller said she also accidentally sprayed herself in the face with mace while trying to deter the animals. The dogs were described as aggressive and roaming the neighborhood. Police were advised they could still be seen around the corner from the caller’s location. The woman declined hospital transport after being evaluated on scene.
Hours later, at about 6:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to Poorhouse Road near Annapolis Woods Road in La Plata for another reported bite. A 37-year-old man was found in pain inside a black Dodge with flashing hazard lights after being bitten on the left forearm. He initially tried to drive himself to a hospital but could not continue because of his injuries. He was taken by ambulance to UM Charles Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds.
Officials said the dog involved in the La Plata case was not at the scene when medics arrived. Both incidents remain under review, and it was not immediately clear if the animals were located.

People, there is specific DOG spray deterrent. NEVER use MACE… First off it could potentially cause harm to yourself, others around you and the dogs (the owners could come after you and the parents if children are injured, I’ve seen it. And they won which was ridiculous but what can you do…. ) and 9 times out of 10, MACE doesn’t effect dogs like it does humans, I’ve seen it just piss them off more… Just please PLEASE be careful….
