At 4:39 p.m. Aug. 3, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Old Line Bank located at 2995 Crain Highway in Waldorf after receiving an anonymous tip indicating the bank was going to be robbed.
Officers established surveillance and at 5:45 p.m., a man matching the description provided by the anonymous caller arrived and attempted to enter the bank. Officers immediately apprehended him.
During a subsequent search, officers discovered he had concealed a gun in the waistband of his pants. The man was identified as Jay Ernest Irby, 33, of no fixed address and was transported to the Sheriff’s Headquarters and interviewed by detectives, who subsequently charged him with attempting to commit armed robbery, robbery and theft valued at more than $500.
He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center on a $75,000 bond. Det. J. Elliott investigated.
