LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing drug and evidence-tampering charges after police said he fled on a moped, discarded items from his pockets and admitted a recovered substance was K2, according to charging documents.
Donald Leo Parks, 32, of Lexington Park, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis, possession of CDS paraphernalia, and altering physical evidence in a criminal proceeding.
A deputy was conducting routine patrols on May 10, 2026, in the parking lot of a business on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park when he saw a red moped leave the business and enter the roadway. Police said the moped appeared to be operating without a rear registration sticker or off-road vehicle sticker, in violation of Maryland traffic law.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the moped in the area of Great Mills Road and Midway Drive. After the deputy activated his emergency equipment, the moped operator looked directly at him and continued driving away, according to the report.
Police said the moped traveled from Midway Drive onto Great Mills Lane before fleeing into the backyard of a home on Great Mills Lane. The deputy then got out of his vehicle and chased the operator on foot.
The deputy identified the operator as Parks and said he saw him trying to place the moped on the ground in the backyard, according to charging documents. Police said Parks also tried to discard multiple items from his pockets, which were later found under the moped.
Parks was placed in hand restraints and escorted away from the moped. A search of the area where the moped had been placed found a Ziploc-style bag containing about 1 gram of a green leafy substance, according to the report.
The deputy identified the substance as suspected K2, a synthetic cannabinoid. Police said the bag was found under the moped and alleged Parks purposely tried to conceal it so it would not be found.
According to charging documents, Parks verbally admitted the recovered substance was K2. Police said a computer check also showed Parks was operating on the roadway without the required license and authorization, and that the moped did not have a license, insurance or registration sticker displayed.
Parks was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Court records show he was given a $3,500 unsecured personal bond on May 10, 2026.
A hearing is set for July 14, 2026, at St. Mary’s District Court.
Under Maryland law, the listed charges carry up to four years of incarceration and up to $10,500 in fines if Parks is convicted and sentenced to the maximum consecutive terms.
