Be A Helping Hand To Resolve Conflict In St. Mary's

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Knowing where their money’s going gives donors confidence in their support to nonprofit organizations, including Community Mediation of St. Mary’s County.

December’s worldwide Giving Tuesday event kicks off the mediation center’s annual Helping Hand fundraising drive, encouraging county residents and businesses to continue their crucial assistance to the center’s broad array of conflict-resolution services, or target one in particular.

“People get to pick which program they want to support,” Mia Bowers, the center’s executive director, said at the center’s recently expanded quarters at Courthouse Drive in Leonardtown.

The choices include aid to family/neighbor mediation, a prison re-entry program, school-based services and community dialogue.

Support for the center or one of the specific programs allows for the training of apprentice mediators, advanced training for current mediators and the purchase of supplies required for each program.

Donors can go online to https://www.communitymediationsmc.org/helping-hand-drive.html, or use their phone to text “give” at 301-709-6994.

“They can do a one-time or reoccurring donation,” Bowers said.

This year’s Giving Tuesday event will take place on Dec. 3, and the mediation center’s Helping Hand drive will continue until end of the year.
