CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — Chesapeake Beach is taking steps to combat the stigma around mental health this month.
The Town of Chesapeake Beach is hosting the “Be Kind to Your Mind” Health Fair, a free community event centered on mental health awareness, wellness, and overall well-being, according to the town’s event page.
The event will be held at the Kellam’s Field Complex at 3825 Gordon Stinnett Ave., on Saturday, May 9, from 8-11 a.m.
This family-friendly event will feature a variety of activities and resources for all ages, including health screenings, wellness information, and opportunities to connect with local organizations. The event is designed to promote positive mental health and provide helpful tools and support for individuals and families.
The day coincides with the annual Shatter the Stigma 5K, hosted by the Local Behavioral Health Authority of the Calvert County Health Department.
The goal of the event is to raise awareness around substance abuse and recovery and bring the community together to support ongoing efforts for mental health and help connect people with resources.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This event has been observed since 1949, and in the years since, many nationwide organizations and communities have joined together to spread awareness and support each other.
