This past Saturday, people showed up by the hundreds to show their support for Hunter Dean Scott, a sweet and precocious four-year-old boy who was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Hunter recently underwent extensive brain surgery to remove a massive tumor that was encasing his brain and is faced with months of chemotherapy to eradicate the cancer.
“It was unbelievable the community response we received,” said Dawn Barrett, a family member who helped organize the event.
The event raised $40,000, most of which came from proceeds at the door. About $4,000 was raised during the silent auction, and $1,248 was raised during the 50/50 raffle. The winner of the raffle, Corinna Jaffe, was given $674, and gave half that back to Hunter.
The day’s events included a 50/50 raffle, Silent Auction, Magic Show, Fantasy Face Painting, a moon bounce and DJ.
This Saturday, July 26 at 10 a.m., there will be another benefit for the Scott family. During Hunter’s chemotheraphy, he will likely lose his hair. Toby’s Barbershop, located at 21927 North Coral Drive in Lexington Park, will host the event “Haircut for Hunter,” so that you can show your support for Hunter by cutting your hair.
Nina Guy, the owner of Toby’s Barbershop, and her staff will generously donate their time and profession to make this day possible. The haircuts are a donation only, and all proceeds will go directly to the Hunter Dean Scott Foundation.
If you would like to help but are unable to attend the benefit, donations can be made to the Hunter Dean Scott Foundation at the PNC Bank in Solomons, or mailed to P.O. Box 289, Solomons, MD 20688.
The foundation is set up so that you may use a donation as a tax deduction. Additionally, individuals and businesses will be acknowledged via a โThank Youโ ad in the local newspapers.
