In their final game of the 2014 season, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Long Island Ducks by the final score of 8-5 at Bethpage Ballpark Sunday afternoon. The Blue Crabs finish the second half with a 39-31 record and a 68-72 record for the entire season.
Ian Marshall (10-10) earned the victory to finish the season .500 after allowing one run in six innings. Shaun Garceau (13-4) was hung with the loss surrendering five runs on eight hits in five innings. Jorge Marban finished up the 9th inning for his second save of the season.
The game remained scoreless up until the 4th inning and then the Blue Crabs scored in five consecutive frames. Southern Maryland put up a four spot that began with a two-run home run by C.J. Ziegler, his 17th of the season. Jamar Walton and Junior Arrojo added RBI hits to double the lead to 4-0.
Jake Opitz added the second home run of the day in the 5th inning with a solo blast, his 18th of the season. Walton made it three straight innings with a home run as his second home run of the season made it 6-1. Walton finished the day 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
Southern Maryland added single runs in the 7th and 8th courtesy of RBI singles by Walton and Opitz. Six Blue Crabs finished the game with multiple hits.
