WALDORF, Md. — After a rainout on Friday night, Southern Maryland was scheduled to hold a doubleheader on Saturday against the Lexington Legends. Game one was a makeup from the First Half, and a Blue Crabs 11-4 win secured a 31-29 First Half record. Game two of the twinbill began in blowout fashion once more, but rain halted the contest in the third inning, stopping with the Blue Crabs on top 7-1.
Game one on Saturday evening was a blowout victory for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The game was a makeup from the First Half of the 2021 season from a rainout on July 15th. The contest was originally set to be a home game for the Legends, making Southern Maryland the visitors on their home turf.
The Blue Crabs piled on four runs in the first inning off of Lexington’s starting pitcher, Shawn Blackwell (L, 5-5). With the bases loaded and one out, Alex Crosby doubled in a pair before Josh McAdams roped in two more runs.
As the Blue Crabs’ newcomer, Misael Siverio continued in his start, his offense added another pair of runs in the third inning. It was Crosby again bringing in the runs, pounding a two-run homer to extend Southern Maryland’s lead.
In Lexington’s half of the fourth inning, they struck back, plating three runs to make things interesting, with Southern Maryland still leading 6-3.
In the fifth inning, however, Southern Maryland reclaimed their hefty lead and then some. Joe DeLuca and Michael Baca each homered in the frame, giving the Blue Crabs a whopping seven homers in their last 13 innings played.
The Blue Crabs would go on to win the game by a score of 11-4. Southern Maryland finished the First Half with 31-29 record, good for second place in the Atlantic League North Division.
