The Board of Education at its May 14 meeting honored four Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students for accomplishments in the areas of academic achievement, career readiness and personal responsibility. Honored were Danny Beverly Jr., Mariah Carter, Tyrone Hudson Jr. and Terra Newcamp.
Beverly is a senior at North Point High School and was honored by the Board in the area of academic achievement. He is enrolled in the electrical construction Career and Technology Education (CTE) program. He has completed certification requirements through the National Center for Construction Education and Research in both the construction core and electrical level I courses. Beverly has also completed the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers/Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee aptitude test. He is set to complete an interview for an electrical apprenticeship after he graduates. Beverly is a member of SkillsUSA, the symphonic and marching bands, and Destination Imagination (DI). Beverly has also been a Principal’s Honor Roll student since 2015.
Carter is a fifth-grade student at Mary B. Neal Elementary School and was honored by the Board in the area of academic achievement. Carter has been a student at Neal since she began prekindergarten and excels in the classroom. She is a role-model student and has been named to the Principal’s Hall of Fame since third grade. Carter is in accelerated math, reads above grade level and is goal oriented. She is known among Neal teachers as a student who is inquisitive, smart, funny and kind to her peers. Carter volunteers to help others and stands out among her peers as a leader. She is also a member of the school band.
Hudson is an eighth grader at Mattawoman Middle School and was honored by the Board in the area of personal responsibility. He demonstrates a strong work ethic and commitment to his studies. He is on the honor roll each quarter, is self-motivated, and goes above and beyond in the classroom. Hudson takes great pride in his work and is the first to volunteer when others need assistance or guidance. He is known as a role model among Mattawoman students and always greets staff and his peers with a smile. Hudson is goal oriented and already has a plan in place for his future after high school. He plans to attend the University of Alabama to study criminal justice.
Newcamp is a fifth grader at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School and was honored by the Board in the area of academic achievement. She models exceptional work and study habits, and strives to do her best on each classroom and homework assignment. Newcamp is well known among her teachers for being kind to her peers and a helper to anyone in need of assistance. She is active in robotics, the school math team, Kiwanis Kids Club, the newspaper club and is a safety patrol, student ambassador and peer mediator. Newcamp received a first-place award in the school science fair and participated in All-County Chorus. Outside of school, Newcamp is active in dance, gymnastics, baking, art, swimming and with her church.
