WALDORF, Md. — After nearly a decade in La Plata and a move to Waldorf earlier this summer, Bollywood Masala Waldorf is now able to offer customers more of the full dining experience they knew before the relocation — including beer, wine, liquor, cocktails and its Saturday buffet.
The Charles County Board of License Commissioners approved a new Class B/RB restaurant-bar beer, wine and liquor license for Bollywood Masala during its Thursday, Aug. 13 meeting.
The approval comes about two months after the family-owned Indian restaurant reopened at 3804 Crain Highway in Waldorf following its departure from Rosewick Road in La Plata.
The BayNet first reported in December that owners Rajat and Punita Malhotra were preparing to relocate Bollywood Masala after nearly 10 years in La Plata. The family initially hoped to stay closer to La Plata but ultimately found its new home in Waldorf, just about five minutes down the road.
During the Aug. 13 hearing, Rajat Malhotra told the Liquor Board that the restaurant had already been operating at the Waldorf location since June 11 but had been waiting to restore alcohol service.
“We’ve had the restaurant in La Plata. We just moved locations from La Plata to Waldorf because of landlord and tenant issues, and we have been open since June 11,” Malhotra said.
Bollywood Masala later announced that alcohol service had officially begun, initially with a limited drink menu while the restaurant works on a revamped cocktail selection featuring new flavors and techniques.
That menu has since begun taking shape.
Recent offerings highlighted by the restaurant include an espresso martini, mudslide and chocolate martini, along with cocktails infused with spices designed to complement the flavors of the food.
That means customers can once again pair drinks with dishes such as kabobs, curries and tandoori lamb chops, which the restaurant describes as marinated with spices and grilled for a smoky flavor.
For anyone trying Bollywood Masala for the first time, the restaurant’s Saturday all-you-can-eat buffet runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., offering an easy way to sample multiple dishes and flavors in one visit.
The buffet was also included in The BayNet’s recent roundup of Southern Maryland buffets, which highlighted Bollywood Masala for its curry, kabobs and other Indian menu options.
The liquor license approval brings Bollywood Masala closer to providing the complete restaurant experience the family built over its years in La Plata — familiar dishes, buffet options and now a full drink selection from its new Waldorf home.
