HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — A Sunderland woman was arrested early Jan. 9, 2026, after deputies responded to reports of a disorderly and intoxicated individual at a Huntingtown business and later encountered additional disturbances involving the same individual, according to charging documents.
Amy Michelle Drye, 46, is charged with misdemeanor counts of intoxicated endangerment, intoxicated public disturbance, disorderly conduct and failing to obey a reasonable and lawful order, court records show.
Deputies were first dispatched shortly after 2:15 a.m. to the Sunderland Wine and Spirits store along Dalrymple Road for a report of a woman inside the business who was yelling and disturbing customers. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Drye and immediately observed signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.
Police said Drye’s clothing was disheveled and that she appeared unsteady on her feet, at times attempting to walk away despite being told to stop. Deputies issued a trespass warning and attempted to assist Drye with a safe way home, but noted she was barefoot and declined additional help.
A short time later, another deputy encountered Drye walking along Dalrymple Road and offered her a ride home, which she accepted. During a subsequent patrol check at a nearby liquor store on North Solomons Island Road, deputies located an unattended vehicle in front of the business and later observed Drye exiting a passenger vehicle and attempting to enter the driver’s seat of a Dodge Charger.
Based on their observations, deputies believed Drye was intoxicated and unable to safely operate a vehicle. Officers attempted to prevent her from driving, but police said Drye refused to comply with repeated commands to exit the vehicle and became increasingly argumentative.
Authorities later learned Drye had recently been dropped off at a residence and that she had suffered a minor hand injury prior to police contact. She was taken to CalvertHealth Medical Center for evaluation, where deputies reported continued disruptive behavior, including yelling profanities, refusing to follow directions and attempting to leave the emergency department.
After determining Drye posed a danger to herself and others due to her intoxication, deputies placed her under arrest. She was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where police said she continued to resist and yell at staff.
Drye was charged later that day and released on her own recognizance. Her trial is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
