PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) announced today that Medicare-eligible retirees will have an additional medical plan choice during the 2026 Open Enrollment period for coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2027. Retirees will have the opportunity to remain enrolled in the current CareFirst Group Medicare Advantage PPO Plan or elect a previously available CCPS retiree supplemental medical plan option.
The decision follows a review of retiree feedback and public comments regarding the transition to the CareFirst Group Medicare Advantage PPO Plan and reflects CCPS’s commitment to providing retirees with meaningful healthcare coverage options.
“Our retirees dedicated their careers to serving the students and families of Calvert County, and we remain committed to supporting them in retirement,” said Dr. Marcus Newsome, Superintendent of Calvert County Public Schools. “By providing Medicare-eligible retirees with the opportunity to choose the health care option that works best for them, we are honoring that service while responding to the valuable feedback we have received.”
Additional information and enrollment materials will be distributed to Medicare-eligible retirees in October 2026. This additional Open Enrollment opportunity applies to medical coverage only. Dental and vision benefits are separate from the medical plan selection and will remain unchanged.
