maryland criminal summons

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A 38-year-old Lexington Park man has been charged with assault and violating a protective order following a series of events that began with a domestic dispute in early August.

The incidents began on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, when St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in Lexington Park. According to charging documents, a woman at the location reported that a former partner, Octavius Stevie Mitchell Jr., had struck her in the face during an argument, causing a swollen and lacerated lip before he fled the residence.

Deputies located Mitchell the following day, Aug. 2, after he was seen driving away from the area upon spotting patrol cars. When contacted by deputies, Mitchell began complaining of chest pains and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. At the hospital, charging documents state he told staff he had been “strangled and beaten with a chair.” An application for charges was filed, and a criminal summons was later issued by the court.

According to court records, a protective order was served on Mitchell on Aug. 3, forbidding him from contacting the woman. He was subsequently charged with violating that order after the woman reported to deputies on Aug. 5 that he had contacted her.

Court records from Baltimore County indicate that Mitchell has a prior felony conviction. He now faces new misdemeanor charges in St. Mary’s County for Second-Degree Assault and Violation of a Protective Order, with court dates scheduled in September.
