In the midst of the high heat and humidity, fire units from Ridge, NAS Patuxent River Station 14, Bay District 3 and 9 were dispatched to the St. James area for the brush fire at 4:09 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The first arriving units reported one and half to two acres were on fire.
Additional fire units from Valley Lee, Hollywood, Seventh District, Mechanicsville and Charles County were called a short time later. EMS unit were called because firefighters were experiencing heat related injuries. At least one firefighter was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital.
At 10:36 p.m. the incident commander report the “fire is contained, the perimeter has been cut.”
