INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A Bryans Road man was ordered held without bond after a traffic stop in Indian Head led to the discovery of a loaded handgun without a serial number, more than 80 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and ammunition, according to charging documents.
Michael Alvaro Monjaras-Ramos, 21, of Bryans Road, is charged in Charles County District Court with possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis, distribution of CDS with a firearm, possession of a firearm without a serial number, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, firearm use in a drug trafficking crime, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a handgun in a vehicle and possession of narcotics production equipment.
According to charging documents, an officer was patrolling the area of Chicamuxen Road in Indian Head around 3:39 a.m. on May 18, 2026, when a white Honda Fit with a Maryland registration was observed with a headlight out near Chicamuxen Road and Triangle Lane.
The officer turned around to follow the vehicle, which activated a turn signal as if it were turning onto Cedar Court, according to the report. The vehicle then changed from a mid-turn to continuing straight, slowed down, and continued onto the shoulder instead of immediately stopping.
Charging documents state the vehicle continued driving on the shoulder under 5 mph before eventually coming to a complete stop. During that time, the officer reported seeing the sole occupant reach behind him into the back seat area.
Monjaras-Ramos was identified as the driver. The report states he appeared extremely nervous and told the officer he was reaching for his driver’s license. He also acknowledged knowing the vehicle had a headlight out.
Because of the movement toward the rear of the vehicle and his behavior during the stop, the officer directed Monjaras-Ramos to step to the front of the patrol vehicle, according to charging documents. The report states he initially did not comply, then was told he was being detained while the officer checked the area where he had allegedly been hiding something.
During a search of the vehicle, the officer reported seeing a small box with a plastic bag hanging out of it on the rear floorboard behind the center console. Inside the bag was a large amount of crystal-like substance that appeared to be crystal methamphetamine, according to court documents.
Monjaras-Ramos was placed in handcuffs. Authorities then searched the vehicle and reported finding a loaded 9mm handgun with no serial number in the center area of the back seat where Monjaras-Ramos had allegedly reached during the stop.
The search also found a working digital scale on the front passenger seat, a working Samsung cellphone, more than 150 rounds of 9mm hollow-point ammunition in a box on the front passenger floorboard and scattered throughout the front passenger area, a plastic wrap with tear marks, a live .22 round in the front driver door pocket, a loaded Glock magazine in a glove box and two 9mm casings, according to charging documents.
The officer wrote that no user paraphernalia associated with methamphetamine use was found in the vehicle. Based on the amount of suspected methamphetamine, the scale, plastic wrap, firearm and lack of user paraphernalia, the report described the evidence as indicative of possession with intent to distribute.
The suspected substance was later tested with a Thermo Scientific TruNarc analyzer and tested positive for methamphetamine, according to charging documents. The report lists the suspected crystal methamphetamine at approximately 81.2 grams, with an approximate street value of $1,740.
Monjaras-Ramos was transported to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
Court records show he was ordered held without bond after a bail/bond review before Judge Kenneth A. Talley on May 19, 2026.
A preliminary hearing is set for June 17, 2026, in Charles District Court.
