
GREAT MILLS, Md. — Bubby’s Christmas Farewell, the 2024 iteration of the annual light show at Flat Iron Farm, exceeded all expectations by raising $320,291.13 for local charities—far surpassing its original goal of $100,000. The event not only celebrated the holiday season but also honored the memory of Bubby Knott, a cherished member of the Southern Maryland community who passed away on Jan. 4, 2024.
The Knott family organized the holiday event to honor Bubby’s legacy, drawing visitors from Nov. 29 through Dec. 23. Guests enjoyed festive foods, a dazzling light display, and exclusive nightly activities, such as a fire truck exhibit and carnival games. The event was free to attend, providing an affordable holiday outing for families.
Donations from the event were matched by the Knott family and dedicated to Southern Maryland charities and volunteer organizations. Originally aiming to raise $100,000 for Knott’s favorite causes, the event far surpassed expectations, bringing in $320,291.13.

A post on the event’s Facebook page celebrated the achievement: “Sharing the Joy of Giving Back! Thanks to your generosity and the Knott Family’s incredible donation, we’re proud to announce the distribution of funds to these amazing local nonprofits!”
The funds were distributed as follows:
- St. Mary’s Hospice House: $52,572.78
- St. Mary’s Caring Soup Kitchen: $52,572.78
- St. Mary’s Little League: $52,572.78
- 2nd District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad: $52,572.78
- Clements Cuties: $25,000.00
- Little Flower School: $20,000.00
- St. Michael’s School: $10,000.00
- Mother Catherine Academy: $10,000.00
- Ridge Volunteer Fire Department: $10,000.00
- Rooms2Luv: $10,000.00
- Spring Ridge Rhythm Club: $5,000.00
- Bay District Fire Department: $10,000.00
- Mike’s Food Fund: $10,000.00
The Knott family also received a citation from the Maryland General Assembly recognizing their “unwavering commitment to giving back to their community and honoring Bubby’s legacy in such meaningful ways.”

The 2nd District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad expressed their gratitude in a Facebook post, stating: “We are incredibly humbled and grateful to the Knott family and the entire St. Mary’s County community for the generous donation… Bubby was a true pillar of our community, always lending a helping hand and supporting Second District in every way possible.”
They went on to describe Bubby’s unwavering support and presence within the organization. “He was a constant presence at our fundraising events and breakfasts, and his spirit continues to inspire us all,” the post continued. “We promise to honor Bubby’s memory by upholding the values he held so dear and striving to always provide the highest level of care and service to our neighbors.”

Through this event, the Knott family and countless participants honored a beloved community figure while supporting vital local organizations.
