Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. – Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman will consider new budget requests by the Board of Education.

At the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell, the Board made several changes to the operating budget. It includes an additional 2 percent cost of living adjustment for all employees, beginning January 2025. The Board is also requesting funds for nearly 200 teaching positions.

Nearly half of those positions would staff three new schools which are set to open this August. It also requests funds for the construction of new schools and money to add gender-neutral bathrooms and changing areas at Arundel High School.

In total, the Board’s operating budget request totals $1.72 billion.

Pittman will deliver his 2025 budget recommendation to the County Council in May followed by public hearings on June 15.

A final budget is set to be adopted three days later, on June 18.
