On September 29, 2011, at approximately 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Torino Drive in California, Maryland, for a report of an assault. Investigation revealed Ivee Cai, 41 of California, Maryland, engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Cai took used a butcher knife to cut the victim on the hand. Deputy Kenneth Flerlage responded to the scene. Cai was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault.
