HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — A fire caused by an unattended burn barrel damaged a shed Tuesday afternoon in Huntingtown, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire was reported around 4:15 p.m. on April 21 at 5511 Huntingtown Road. Officials said the blaze originated on the exterior of the structure and spread to a nearby shed.

A neighbor discovered the fire and alerted authorities.

Firefighters from the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department, along with surrounding departments, responded with approximately 40 personnel. Crews brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

Damage to the shed and its contents is estimated at $5,000. Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by an unattended burn barrel located near the structure.
