
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Sheriff Ricky Cox and Major T.D. Reece are proud to announce the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy (SMCJA) celebrated the graduation of 12 correctional officers , 3 of which will be assigned to the Calvert County Detention Center.
The graduates received final inspection from the Corrections Entrance Level Training Program (CELTP), Session 71, during a ceremony held April 5, 2024, at Chopticon High School.
The men and women of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office welcome the newest Correctional Deputies to our CCSO family:



During the graduation ceremony, SMCJA instructors presented awards to graduates who excelled in three categories:

Calvert’s very own Shane MacWilliams (Calvert County Sheriff’s Office) received the highest Scholastic Award with a GPA of 97.03.

Calvert’s very own Ella Lavorgna (Calvert County Sheriff’s Office ) received the Physical Fitness Award with 626 points out of 800.
Andron Ford (Charles County Sheriff’s Office) was honored with the Steve Allen Leadership Award, named after one of the original founders of the SMCJA who died of cancer several years ago. The recipient of this award is selected by staff as having consistently demonstrated the attributes of Leadership, Initiative, Motivation, and Compassion through their training.
