
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools finalized three new appointments at their April 23 meeting, including two newly created executive director roles.
Dr. Michele Schmidt will serve as the executive director for elementary schools. Dr. Schmidt is the current principal of Windy Hill Elementary, and previously worked as the assistant principal at Huntingtown High School. Schmidt was also a mathematics teacher at Huntingtown High School, and a math and English language arts (ELA) teacher at Plum Point Middle School. Dr. Schmidt has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a concentration in mathematics, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Western Maryland College, and a doctoral degree from American College of Education.
Dr. Schmidt accepted the appointment and said she looked forward to working to support systems that support “high quality learning.”
Cecilia Lewis was appointed as the executive director for secondary schools. Lewis currently works as the director for student services, and has also worked as the supervisor of human resources, as well as a middle school principal and high school social studies teacher, among other roles. Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in international study from the University of North Carolina, a master’s in teaching from Bowie State University, and an education, leadership, and school administration certification from McDaniel College.
Lewis thanked Dr. Susan Johnson and Jackie Jacobs in her remarks, and said the opportunities provided to her in Calvert County Public Schools.
“The opportunities you have provided prepared me and laid the foundation for the work I am honored to begin. In such a short time, you have modeled what a change agent can and should do,” Lewis said in her remarks.
Finally, the board of education appointed Debra Baker to serve as the assistant principal of St. Leonard Elementary. Baker has worked as a school dean and as a special education teacher at Northern Middle School, and a reading and special education teacher in Charles County. Baker has a bachelor of science and a master’s in education.
Baker said she looked forward to partnering with students, parents, staff and the school community to support student growth and success.
