Lexington Park, MD – An early morning vehicle fire caused heavy damage to a 2014 Toyota and was deliberately set, state officials reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the fire occurred Monday, Dec. 5 around 2:30 a.m. on Hermanville Road in Lexington Park. A 2014 Toyota was set ablaze, and the fire had been discovered by a neighbor.

Five firefighters from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and brought the flames under control in 10 minutes. No injuries were reported.

According to the deputy fire marshal investigating the incident, the fire originated at the exterior of the vehicle. Damage is estimated at $15,000. State authorities identified the vehicleโ€™s owner as Lonita Nelson.
