It is with profound sadness, Carol Ann Coombs, 74, of Great Mills, MD, passed away on July 19, 2026, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC surrounded by her family and friends. Born November 9, 1951, in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Jenifer Norris and Alma Dolores Bean Norris Pinno. She married Joseph Ronald Coombs on June 26, 1971, who preceded her in death on January 09, 2000. She is survived by her children Edmund Lee Keenan, Great Mills, MD, Joseph Wayne Coombs (Aly), Mechanicsville, MD and her siblings A. Virginia Pilkerton (Jay), Hollywood, MD, Roy L. Norris, Great Mills, MD, Debbie J. Norris (Freddy), Lexington Park, MD, and Paul B. Norris (Saraha), Lexington Park, MD. She was preceded in death by her brothers David B. (Dicky) Norris (Patsy), Dennis R. Norris, and J. Wayne Norris. She is survived by three grandchildren Alyssa Keenan, Ayla Keenan, and Evelyn Arias.
Carol Ann started her government career after graduation and worked thirty years until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Belles, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 0969, Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), and an Avon representative for many years. Carol Ann was an avid reader, loved playing slot machines and bingo, and going on mini trips to Ocean City, MD and Myrtle Beach, SC. An old soul at heart, Carol Ann shunned modern devices, favoring the soft click of her disposable camera to preserve the moments she loved.
Carol Ann was a devout catholic and attended Holy Face Church. For 31 years, nothing could keep her away from working the pull-tabs booth at the annual Spring Festival. She loved Christmas and Easter and never forgot a birthday. Her remarkable memory was a gift that held decades of memories to share with others, and she enjoyed making people laugh with her stories. She was a good listener and always saw the best in people, but if you crossed her path, beware. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all that knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 3rd at 11 AM at Holy Face Church, Great Mills, MD with Fr. Scott Holmer officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Holy Face Church cemetery, Great Mills, MD. Pallbearers will be her nephews: Dennis, Brandon, Donald, Dennis Joseph, and Andrew Norris and Bo Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Ayla Keenan, Nancy Pilkerton, Louise Coombs, Ann Tippet, Brenda Carter, Doris Chase, Geri June, Larry Proffit, Greg and Kathie Harvey, and Betty and Ray Dion.
