Carol Sue Brady, of La Plata, MD, passed away February 13, 2024, at age 67, after a long battle with cancer. Born on December 16, 1956, in Cheverly, MD, Carol was the second child of Albert “Billy” and Cornelia “Ann” Brady.

Carol was predeceased in death by her parents who she lived with for many years. She is survived by three sisters and two nephews and a daughter in law, as well as her great-nephew and great-niece, to whom she passed down her love of tractors and horses.

Much of Carol’s happy childhood was spent in Hillside, MD. She began her career at the Computer Learning Center, and completed many certification programs and college classes in basic and advanced computer programing skills.  She pursued a career in computer science, serving as a U.S. Department of Defense contractor for many years. One of her greatest accomplishments was working on the Presidential Helicopter program at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. She also loved to travel for work, and had fond memories of visiting the Navy ships in San Diego. In 2008, Carol transitioned as a federal employee for the U.S. Census Bureau and worked there until her retirement in 2019.

Carol had a deep love for animals, especially for her rescue horse, Mickey Blue. Carol called Mickey Blue the love her life, and credits him for being there in every step of her fight against cancer: “Mickey Blue is not just my horse, he is a kind and gentle soul, my warrior, and my best friend,” she said. Carol spent many years volunteering at the Freedom Hill Horse Rescue (FHHR), where she met Mickey Blue, and also made countless life-long friends.

Carol made a dream trip with her sister, Debbie, and brother-in-law, Earl, to Dallas Fort Worth just a few years ago where she was able to drive a team of horses hooked up to a wagon around downtown. She was able to shop her heart out for western apparel and amazed herself by getting up on a long horn steer with the help of a cowboy.  Carol was surrounded by the love of her FHHR friends, and her loving caretakers, Debra and Earl. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Freedom Hill Horse Rescue in Owings, Md., at https://www.freedomhillhorserescue.com/make-a-donation.html.
