WALDORF, Md. – Today, Charles County Sheriff’s Office announces the retirement of a special member of their family. K9 Coni, who served faithfully alongside her handler M/Cpl. Renee Cuyler, recently retired after 8 years of dedicated service to Charles County.
Coni began her career in 2013 as an Explosive/Weapon Detective K9. In her 8 years, she completed many explosive scans and weapon evidence recoveries. She and M/Cpl. Cuyler also assisted in conducting testing of various components of explosives with the Naval Surface Warfare Center/Explosive Ordnance Tech Division, which aids military K9 teams in their training techniques in Afghanistan.
In 2015, M/Cpl. Cuyler and Coni won a Gold Medal for Explosive Detection at the World Police & Fire Games. Coni is well-loved by anyone who has had the opportunity to see her at K9 demonstrations throughout the county.
In her retirement, Coni will enjoy her senior years at home with her handler and K9 siblings, K9 Cooper (active duty) and retired K9 Gunny.
Coni will always be part of the CCSO Family. #CCSOPRIDE
