The American Concrete Institute recently honored Chaney Enterprises with its โ€œExcellence in Concreteโ€ Awards for projects in Virginia and Anne Arundel County.

Projects selected by the ACI represent the best concept, originality and application of concrete in construction and renovation projects. The project can also reflect the advancement of knowledge and practices in the field of concrete. Various project categories are reviewed and adjudicated.

The ACI Virginia Chapter named the Lantern Hall insulated concrete form residence in King George, Va. as its 2013 Commonwealth Award winner. Built by Innovative Property Developers, this 19,300 square-foot residential project on 42 acres was constructed with Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) using passive solar design and floored in concrete. The ICF, which has excellent insulation capabilities and strength, played a major role in meeting the homeownerโ€™s requirements to build the most energy-efficient home possible. Chaney Virginia supplied more than 370 cubic yards of concrete.

Two projects in Anne Arundel County were recognized by the ACI Maryland Chapter. The Sustainability Award was given to the Quiet Waters Park Garrettโ€™s Light Butterfly and Watershed Education Experience pocket park project in Annapolis. Spanning 12,000 square feet near the parkโ€™s visitor center, the project actively deals with storm water runoff issues with its bioretention rain gardens, step pools and bioswales joined together by pervious concrete walkways and an outdoor education classroom. Chaney Enterprises donated 28 cubic yards of pervious concrete and aggregates for the project.

Hyde Concrete received the Architectural/Decorative Award for its decorative concrete bar installed at Two Rivers Steak and Fish House in Pasadena. The 86-foot long bartop is a continuous, cast-in-place, stained concrete structure that is 33 feet long by 10 feet wide. The top, which was installed in 2011, has no cracks or joints, maintaining its continuous design.
